Identification of Disability
Disability is a part of biodiversity. Not all disabilities are visible. In some cases the disability is not even permanent. Rather, temporary disabilities are seen in various cases. There is also variation in the degree of disability. Bangladesh is believed to have a significant number of people with disabilities. Various studies show that most of the disabled people are victims of poverty and low income.It is the need of the hour to take effective initiatives to alleviate poverty and improve the quality of life of disabled people. In order to alleviate poverty and improve the quality of life, it is necessary to take targeted and planned activities to provide them with appropriate treatment, education and training. For this purpose, a nationwide 'Disability Identification Survey Programme' was adopted to identify the type of disability, measure the extent and determine the correct statistics of the disabled population.             
This survey was conducted on a pilot basis in May 2012 AD with the aim of correcting the effectiveness of the system before nationwide expansion. starts from In the financial year 2011-2012, on a pilot basis, all the upazilas of Gopalganj district and Jamalpur Sadar, Barura (Comilla), Paba (Rajshahi), Morelganj (Bagerhat), Barisal Sadar, Chunarughat (Habiganj) and Fulbari (Dinajpur) upazilas were surveyed in a total of 12 upazilas and two UCDs. The work is done.In the fiscal year 2012-13, except for the upazila where the survey was conducted on a pilot basis, the initiative was taken to conduct house-to-house survey in the remaining areas of the country. 1 June 2013 AD. Field data collection started from 14 November 2013 AD. Primary data collection is done.
In the financial year 2013-14, the work of determining the type and degree of disability of the disabled persons under the scope of the survey by the doctors nominated by the Department of Health started. In 2014-15 FY 2014-15, disabled persons were surveyed and identified by doctors.
Disability Information System  (www.dis.gov.bd) database has been prepared to ensure the overall development of disabled persons in the light of proper storage and preservation of the information of the disabled persons identified by the doctor and the information of the disabled persons is being regularly inserted in the database through web based software. 

Objectives of the Disability Identification Survey Program:


1. Determining the number of families/individuals of the disabled population in Bangladesh.

2. Identification of visible and invisible disabilities in the country.

3. Registration and issuance of identity cards to persons with disabilities.

4. Prepare a database containing pictures of disabled people and use all relevant information for all administrative ministries.


5. Facilitate proper targeting of the disabled population in various programs/projects of the government and targeting strategies; And

6. To ensure the welfare of the disabled population as per the National Policy on Disability.

Disability Identification Survey Program is an ongoing activity. Persons with disabilities who have not yet been covered by the Disability Identification Survey are requested to download the following interview schedule duly filled and submitted to the nearest social services office.
